Exploring AI Assessment Tools in English Language Learning and Teaching – A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology can be found in various sectors, including education and especially in English Language Teaching (ELT). It has the promise of completely transforming education by performing management activities, lending sophisticated teaching platforms and individualizing the experiences of learning. There are several language learning applications and websites integrated with AI tools to enhance language learning. In recent days, there have also been language skills assessment AI tools available, which assess listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The current study aims to collect 10 AI language assessment tools and examine their features and accessibility for language learners and teachers. The study employs a qualitative method of survey technique; a survey of related studies has generated interesting insights. The study describes the usability of each AI language assessment tool with an authorized website link. Also, recommendations for the language instructors, learners and for further studies. It would be extremely beneficial for language learners and teachers to assess language proficiency levels by utilizing AI tools in ELT.
