Towards Paperless Banking: A Conceptual Exploration of E-Banking’s Role in Sustainable Development

Abstract
E-banking has become a key stimulating factor towards paperless banking which is convenient, efficient and accessible in addition to being a factor towards sustainable development. This paper examines the conceptual relationship between e-banking adoption and the importance of fostering environmental, economic and social sustainability. The paper looks at the major drivers of adoption such as the efficiency of the system, security, customer awareness, as well as concern on the environment. Based on the sample size (185 respondents), the study uses descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation, and regression to determine the relationships. The results have shown that increased awareness, effectiveness of systems, and concern towards the environment has a positive impact on the adoption of paperless that also leads to sustainability. The research also points to the fact that the user-friendly and safe e-banking services should be promoted to promote environmentally friendly banking.
