Awareness Towards Health Insurance among Non-Policyholders in Madurai City

Abstract
This study examines the awareness towards health insurance among non-policyholders in Madurai City. The study focuses on understanding the level of awareness regarding health insurance schemes, policy benefits, premium determination, financial protection, claim settlement procedures, and insurance-related services among individuals who do not possess health insurance policies. Primary data were collected from 100 non-policyholders using a structured questionnaire. The study also analyses respondents’ awareness regarding insurance company reputation, transparency, customer service, and various health insurance facilities. Cluster analysis was employed to classify respondents based on their level of awareness towards health insurance. The findings of the study revealed three categories of respondents, namely highly aware, moderately aware, and less aware groups. Among the respondents, 52 percent belonged to the highly aware group, 18 percent belonged to the moderately aware group, and 30 percent belonged to the less aware group. The study indicates that awareness towards health insurance varies among non-policyholders based on their understanding of insurance benefits, procedures, and related services. The study emphasizes the importance of improving awareness programmes, communication strategies, and customer-oriented services to strengthen awareness towards health insurance among non-policyholders in Madurai City.
