Abstract

The Pandya Dynasty played an important role in the cultural development of Tamil society and left a lasting impact on the history of South India. Through their patronage of literature, religion, art, architecture, and trade, the Pandyas contributed significantly to the growth and enrichment of Tamil civilization. The present study examines the various cultural contributions of the Pandya rulers and evaluates their influence on the social and cultural life of the Tamil country. The main objectives of the study are to analyze the role of the Pandyas in promoting Tamil language and literature, encouraging religious activities, developing temple architecture, and fostering cultural exchanges through trade and commerce. The study is based on historical research methodology and makes use of both primary and secondary sources. Primary sources include inscriptions, copper plates, archaeological evidence, temple records, and literary works, while secondary sources consist of books, journals, research articles, and published studies related to the Pandya period. The collected information has been analyzed using descriptive and interpretative methods. The findings of the study reveal that the Pandya rulers actively supported cultural institutions and contributed to the preservation and expansion of Tamil traditions. Their achievements in literature, architecture, religion, and commerce strengthened the cultural foundations of Tamil society. The study concludes that the Pandya Dynasty occupies a prominent place in the cultural history of Tamil Nadu and made enduring contributions to the development of Tamil civilization.
