Abstract

This research examines consumer perceptions and behavioral patterns regarding plastic money adoption in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu. Through a comprehensive analysis of demographic factors, usage patterns, and attitudinal dimensions, this study identifies key determinants influencing the acceptance and utilization of credit and debit cards. Data collected from 250 respondents reveals significant insights into trust factors, perceived convenience, security concerns, and socioeconomic influences shaping adoption rates. The findings indicate that while awareness levels are high, actual usage remains constrained by security apprehensions, merchant acceptance limitations, and traditional cash preferences. This research contributes to understanding regional variations in financial technology adoption and offers practical implications for financial institutions and policymakers seeking to enhance cashless transaction ecosystems in tier-2 Indian cities.
