The Influence of Digital Technology on Sustainable Tourism Management in Kerala

Abstract
Digital technology has transformed the tourism industry across the world by improving destination management, visitor experience, marketing efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Kerala, popularly known as “God’s Own Country,” has increasingly adopted digital tools to promote sustainable tourism practices. This article examines how digital technology influences sustainable tourism management in Kerala through smart tourism initiatives, online promotion, responsible tourism platforms, digital governance, and community participation. The study also incorporates primary data collected from tourists and local stakeholders in selected destinations of Kerala. The findings reveal that digital technology positively influences tourist satisfaction, destination management, environmental awareness, and local economic participation. However, infrastructural limitations, digital divide, cybersecurity concerns, and overtourism remain major challenges. The article concludes that digital technology significantly strengthens Kerala’s sustainable tourism model by balancing economic development, environmental conservation, and socio-cultural preservation.
