A Morphological and Philosophical Study of Jain Architecture
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the architectural evolution of Jain Tirtha Kshetras, arguing that their structural configurations are physical manifestations of the Jain Anekantavada (non-absolutism) and Ahimsa (non-violence) philosophies. By analyzing key elements such as the Manastambha and the development of the Shikhara, this paper delineates how Jain builders synthesized regional Nagara and Dravida styles into a unique sectarian aesthetic. Through a multi-disciplinary lens involving structural engineering and religious studies, the research highlights the transition from subterranean asceticism to the "temple cities" of the medieval era.
