Abstract

This paper provides an extensive conceptual analysis of the global tourism sector's evolution between 2017 and 2022. It identifies three distinct phases: the “Overtourism Crisis” (2017-2019), the “Systemic Collapse” (2020-2021), and the “Regenerative Reset” (2022). By synthesizing over 20 peer-reviewed sources from this era, the study constructs a holistic framework that integrates Social Exchange Theory, Service Dominant Logic (S-D Logic), and Resilience Theory. The paper concludes that the industry has shifted from an extractive economic model to a symbiotic ecological model.
